This year's challenge is to grow some sweet corn. So far, so good - the seeds have germinated. At dawn, after a humid night, each seedling has a tiny grop of water secreted from the tip of the emerging leaf.
Out in the garden Magnolia stellata buds are bursting. The pinkness of the petals fades to white as they open.
